The Chaser- MPM was right. I rarely venture into the world of Korean cinema but this was a good one. The search is on for a killer when a former cop ,now pimp's, stable begins to disappear. The film moves at a clip even though it clocks in about 2 hours. The acting is excellent and the suspense is held throughout. A few miscues hamper it from being all out perfection but this was damn close. 8.5/10

Big Spender- Simon Yam's Operation Billionaires beat Ray Lui's film to the punch but both do a ho-hum job at telling the story of notorious gangster Cheung Chi-keung. Chi-keung was know as "the Big Spender" for is excessivness. Though the film shows him stealing money it doesn't really show him 'spending' money, save for a scene in a casino. The film is surprisingly restrained and drags in parts, but there is a decent amount of action to keep viewers interested. I believe the film wanted to be something more but the low budget and slow storytelling drag the film down. An excellent cast including, Ben Lam, Simon Loui, Yu Rong Guang, Roy Cheung, and Cecilia Yip do there best. Still, it's a mildly decent watch. 6/10

A Fallen Angel- Danny Lee is top billed but is seen rarely in this shit production from 'Milkway'….not Milkyway. You can see where this is headed. Teresa Mak and Wayne Lai also star. This is terrible. The same extras can be seen walking back and forth in the background wearing the same clothes on consecutive days. Part of the story could have made a great Cat III. The story concerns a prostitute killer who after the bloodletting takes a needle and thread and sew's up his victims va j j. Cool concept. Crap film. 1/10

The Vampire Who Admires Me- Wong Jing wrote and produced this horror/comedy stinker concerning a troupe of models attending a photo shoot on an outlying HK island inhabited by vampires. Oooohhhh….spooooky! The blood is CGI and Sam Lee plays a gay photog with an afro. Avoid. 2/10

On Parole- Kara Hui stars as a parolee who tries to get her life back on track with a handful of other chick ex-con's. This proves tough as problems from their past lives persist. Decently played drama with bits of action and grit thrown in make this a passable effort. 5/10

Wipe Out- Francis Ng is top billed but given very little to do but stand around, literally, in this slow crime drama. Someone insignifigant is killed by another insignifigant person yet the police investigation spans Hong Kong to China, to Taiwan, to Japan!? The film is dark and moody and at times looks very good. Also starring Yu Rong Guang, Christine Ng, and Wayne Lai. Had potential. Disappointing. 4/10

Mafia. Com- Director Alan Lo (Her Name is Cat 2, City Hero) has never been quite succesful with his projects. He shows flashes of style and care but can't outrun the tired stories and tiny budgets. Here he tells the age old tale of young punk upstarts in the triad game. Ben Ng plays a famous dai lo (who I think has a case of bells palsey?) who gives the small potatoes a chance. Roy Cheung is a rival gangster and Danny Lee plays a cop. Surprise, surprise. Entertaining but no big deal. 6/10

A Chinese Odyssey 1: Pandora's Box- Stephen Chow plays the Monkey King in Jeff Lau's comedic re-telling of Journey to the West. Filled with Chow's trademark nonesense, he and Ng Man Tat are just silly enough to make the film very entertaining and funny. Karen Mok also stars. Leaves you actually wanting to see part 2. A good thing. 7/10

Temptation of Office Ladies- Famous for his Mr. Vampire films, director Ricky Lau has done little else. He should have quit while he was ahead. This film is a god awful chick soap opera concerning 3 ladies with various men problems. Athena Chu, one of the lovelies, gets gang raped at the end (the music employed for the scene seems to play the moment as a comedy) and the girls get together to exact revenge in the closing minutes. Slow and sleep enducing. Awful. Just awful. 1/10
